Bird-watching before Ottawa's first 2013 winterstorm

Before heavy snow started to fall yesterday afternoon, I went out to Mooney's Bay Park, a 45-minute walk from where I now live, to do some bird-watching.

With the city in the background, this scenery reminds me of being in Vancouver.

Common Mergansers (Mergus merganser).

I am guessing most of them were Great Black-backed Gulls (Larus marinus), the last time I saw them was last September at Presqu'ile.  There were also some Mallards, (probably) other species of gulls, and unidentified waterfowls too far for me to see with my binoculars.

These were the views this morning from where I live.  I better get use to winter here in Ottawa.  I got an used iPhone from my aunt in Taiwan, and I used it to take the two photos below.  I might use it more frequently for my daily photos since I am already carrying it for other purposes.
