Black-capped Chickadees nest excavation

Today, my mother and I walked around in the afternoon and we walked by the chickadee nest cavity that we discovered last month.

A pair of chickadees was heard and saw in the neighborhood.

One chickadee flew in and poked its head out.

Looked like it had some wood chips in its beak - I think it is still excavating the cavity.

As that chickadee flew away, another entered back in.

The tree is located outside someone's front yard fence (but facing towards the house), and so to avoid being suspicious, as well as to not disrupt the chickadees' nesting, we left a few minutes later. But we'll definitely come back and check it out. Pretty amazing!
