2017 Ottawa Jazz Festival

This past few days I was volunteering at the Ottawa Jazz Festival.  This was my first time volunteering for this festival, but the weather had been quite uncooperative for me to attend all the shows and properly enjoy the music.  The two main musicians why I volunteered for this festival were: Hannah Georgas and Feist, and I didn't miss them regardless of how bad the weather was.

2015 Ottawa CityFolk Festival

My September has been pretty hectic so far with little time to just relax and not think about work.  This past weekend, I attended the CityFolk Festival (previously known as the Ottawa Folk Festival - see last year's photos and blog post here), which provided me a few entertaining hours of folk music each day.  Below are photos from the bands that I want to see.

I just love the beautiful music created by this sister duo even though my French is horrendous.  Their most popular song on YouTube is probably this song, check it out!

2014 Ottawa Folk Festival

This past few days (Sept 10 - 14) I have been attending shows at the Ottawa Folk Festival - my first time attending this event and it is fantastic!  Here are some photos I took from this event.  Note: most of the shows were during night time and my camera is not good with high ISO, thus I turned most of these photos into black-and-white images.

Canadian Tulip Festival - Blast of colours (Part 2)

I biked to Commissioners Park this afternoon to check out the tulip festival once again.  Along the way, I saw many (crabapple?) blossoms in the Arboretum.

2014 Winterlude in Ottawa

Winterlude is a pretty well-known festival in Canada that celebrates winter.  The 36th annual event began this year on January 31 and will end on February 17.  I have been too busy to check it out extensively, but I took some time on Tuesday to check out some of the displays and ice sculptures, as well as this afternoon just to feel the atmosphere with so many people around.

The weather was really nice on Tuesday.

2013 Peterborough Folk Festival

The 24th annual Peterborough Folk Festival (PFF) took place this weekend.  It was my third (and probably last) time attending this festival since I will be completing my degree this summer.  See my posts from 2011 and 2012.

For the third year in a row, the weather couldn't been better.

Photographic update

Sorry for the lack of update lately, I have been working hard on my thesis so that I can complete my degree before the new school year (so that I don't have to pay any more tuition).  I am also working on another research project, preparing my PhD application, arranging travel arrangements, and so forth.  I will be flying back to BC this coming Wednesday for a few days, then I am off to Whitehorse to attend an Arctic/Alpine Pollination workshop (information here), and my summer travels will wrap up in New Orleans (via Vancouver and Toronto) where I will be presenting my research at the Botany conference.

I don't have free time to go anywhere to take photos, but I still bring my camera everywhere I go just in case.  Here are the photos I took this past two weeks.

Attending the Multicultural Canada Day Festival 2013 in Peterborough.  The low-point of the day was that a friend had her kayak stolen from top of her car while we were at the festival.  To have this kind of thing happening, especially during Canada Day, is just not acceptable.  The kayak (see posting here) was brought over from Europe, so it is likely the only one of its kind in Canada, if anyone has seen it (anywhere in Canada), please contact the Peterborough police (more info in the link above).

2012 Peterborough Folk Festival

I had been pretty busy the past few days.  I arrived on Tuesday, checked out and agreed on a new place on Wednesday, packed on Thursday, and moved into new place on Friday.  Phew.

I took a break today and biked from my new place to where the Peterborough Folk Festival is held this year.  This is last year's post.

The weather was beautiful and many people showed up to participate.

First Annual Purple Onion Festival

Today is Peterborough's first annual Purple Onion Festival, a celebration of local food and culture. It was quite small but the quality was quite good, in terms of information about local food and sustainability, and the fresh produce and food available. Plus, it was a beautiful day to be outside.

2011 Peterborough Folk Festival

Today, my mother and I spent an entertaining afternoon at the Peterborough Folk Festival. This event is much smaller than the Mariposa Folk Festival that I attended last year in Orillia, but it is just as fun to attend (plus it's free too!).

The turnout was still quite impressive given only a handful of musicians playing and some vendors (comparing to Mariposa again).

Fourth Annual Richmond Raptor Festival

Today was the 4th Richmond Raptor Festival. August is a great time to be back in B.C. - lots of sunshine and happening events.

Quick glance at the Richmond Maritime Festival

My mother and I went to the Richmond Maritime Festival this afternoon. Despite living in Richmond for many years, this is the first time we attended this event.

A nice day with many Yellowlegs resting on logs.

Howdy - more photos to share

On my last off-days, I went to the Mariposa Folk Festival. It was quite an amazing experience - lots of interesting things to check out, great new bands and musicians to discover and the weather was just fantastic.

This was one of my favorite musicians at the festival - Catherine MacLellan.

After my off-days, it was back to work. Here are more photos from the field site.
