I had the car for the day, so I was able to drive my mother and I around to check out some birding areas in Richmond.
Paulik Park
Paulik Park
A Northern Flicker excavated the nest for a short while.
Closer look at the hole. Beside the flicker, we also saw a Bald Eagle flying overhead.
Pretty flower.
Close-up.
Garden City Park
Since we went there near noon, the park was pretty quiet in terms of bird-watching. We saw Mallads, GBH, a female Hooded Merganser, Robins, and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
Iona Beach
It was quiet beautiful, but also very windy and chilly.
Walking around the pond, we saw a pair of Canada Geese, a GBH, and some Red-winged Blackbirds.
This pair seemed quiet attracted to us.
Panoramic Views of the pond.
In the pond were a pair of Lesser Scaups, a Coot, Buffleheads, and Canada Geese.
Then we walked to the jetty. But it started to get very cloudy and we did not see any birds ahead, so we quickly turned back.
In the water, we only saw some scaups.
A juvenile Bald Eagle on the beach - not doing anything in particular.
A male Northern Harrier slowly flew towards us as we were walking back.
Driving back. Getting cloudy now.
A somewhat better photo.
Using my E-620 and getting closer, I got this interesting image.

Terra Nova
The weather turned better when we crossed the bridge, so we went to Terra Nova. Over there, we saw a GBH, Canvasbacks, Northern Shovelers, Canada Geese, and others. But most interesting was this Northern Harrier on this pole.

Then I spotted something on a treetop that I quickly pointed out to my mother. It was a Rufous Hummingbird! Too bad it was cloudy and hard to get a decent photograph.
A somewhat better photo.
